War at sea has returned to Europe. Edited by Julian Pawlak and André Pecher, Re-Learning War: Lessons from the Black Sea gathers cutting-edge insights from top military experts and scholars to explore how Ukraine challenges Russian naval supremacy in the Black Sea. The 2024 Kiel International Seapower Symposium Proceedings look at potential lessons reshaping Western strategic planning for the Baltic and the Arctic, and discovers what the future of naval warfare holds for Europe and beyond.
The German Institute for Defence and Strategic Studies (GIDS) and the Institute for Security Policy at Kiel University (ISPK) joined forces for the first time to co-host Europe’s dedicated Maritime Strategy & Security conference, the 2024 Kiel International Seapower Symposium (KISS). Titled Re-Learning War: Lessons from the Black Sea, both the conference and the preceding workshop aimed at sharing insights and observations from the maritime domain.
