Strategic planning of armed forces requires a solid basis, and the planning of organisational development is no exception to this rule. This applies both to the matter of providing personnel and materiel resources for organisational structures, and to the further development of control and leadership capabilities. A nuanced and critical analysis is required to determine what will be required of the armed forces in the medium to long term, how these requirements can be achieved not only now but also in the future, and how the armed forces must be supported and equipped to achieve this. Synoptic comparison of national and international organisational and command structures will play an important role in this analysis.
